Overview
Updating operating systems has been a crucial step to patch security vulnerabilities or even add new features. Unfortunately upon the release of such updates, users have no choice but to reboot their systems for fully applying these updates, resulting in unavoidable downtime and loss of running application states.
Our team at Gatech is building a new update mechanism that facilitates a robust, rebootless update of a system by using application checkpoint-and-restart and a faster kernel switch.
